Lil Baby Started A Scholarship And Donated $150K To His Former High School In Atlanta

The Atlanta rap star intends to annually award the new scholarship to college-bound students.

Atlanta trapster Lil Baby is the latest rapper to pay it forward to his hometown community for generations to come.

  • On Wednesday (Mar. 4), Lil Baby returned to his alma mater, Booker T. Washington High School, in Atlanta where he revealed before a crowd of students that he started a scholarship, the My Turn Scholarship fund. His scholarship was backed by Amazon Music’s Rap Rotation, Quality Control, Wolfpack Global and Motown Records, according to XXL. Local television station WSBTV further reported that the scholarship will be awarded to aspiring high school students that have displayed excellence in the classroom. The first award will be given out this year to senior Vachon Raye Jr., who was ecstatic over the news. Raye shared with WSBTV that he has his sights set on an ivy league school.

“For him to give back really [impacted] tme,” Raye told the outlet.

  • A clip of the moment surfaced online where Baby can be seen signing a jumbo-sized check that he carries out on stage before a crowd.

“Every year, I'm gonna be giving a scholarship. It's gonna be the My Turn Scholarship to somebody at [Booker T. Washington High School]. So it's really gonna be like [to] the best student in each grade,” Baby announced. “I’m gonna give a $150,000 to Washington. So, some of y’all gonna have a chance to get a My Turn scholarship. This is just my first year. So, next year, hopefully, we will return bigger and better.”

  • The scholarship derives its name from the Quality Control MC’s sophomore studio album, My Turn, the follow-up to 2018’s Street Gossip. Per Billboard’s latest tally, the 20-track project is on course to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. This would be Baby’s first album to land atop the chart.
