'Pop, Lock, and Drop It' Rapper Huey Dead At 32

The St. Louis native was fatally shot in his hometown on Thursday night.

St. Louis rapper Huey has reportedly been pronounced dead following a shooting in his hometown.

  • On Friday (June 26), local news station Fox 2 reported Huey, born Lawrence Franks Jr., showed up at a local hospital suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. 

    The St. Louis Police Department told the news outlet that the rapper was fatally wounded in a shooting that reportedly took place in Kinloch, Missouri on Thursday night (June 25).  

    The police also revealed that a second unidentified male victim of what they believe to be from the same shooting showed up at the Ferguson Police Department with a gunshot wound.  He was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated. 

  • No one has been arrested in connection to the shooting. The St. Louis hip hop community was hit hard by the tragic news. 

    Jaylien Wesley, a producer and songwriter from St. Louis, took to Twitter, writing, “shed a few, my dawg Huey is gone forever. Thank you for the talk, thank you for your energy, thank you for believing in me. I’ma help keep your spirit alive down here. much much love forever.”

  • Jevon M. Tompkins, president of IDOL Music Group and founder of Blanco Tarantino TV, was crushed. “[Huey] was expected to shoot a video this Saturday,” he tweeted along with a photo of the deceased rapper. “This just hit home [for real].”

  • Huey is best known for his 2006 smash debut single, “Pop, Lock, And Drop It,” which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. He leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter.
