Look: The Banned Air Jordan 1s Are Making a Major Comeback

Here are the details.

This Saturday (September 3), Nike will re-release the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Banned sneakers in their famous red-and-black colorway.

The fever for the kicks is evident, as they're already in the hands of resellers, days before their release.

But these weren't the exact pair of Michael Jordan sneakers that then-NBA commissioner David Stern "banned" nearly 32 years ago due to a violation of the league's "uniformity of uniform rule."

According to multiple reports, including SoleCollector and Complex's deep dives, the pair of sneakers that Stern banned were actually the Nike Air Ship, which included a red-and-black colorway.

However, thanks to brilliant — and timely — marketing by Nike, which tied the banned status in with the Air Jordan 1s, fans were fooled into believing that these were the sneakers outlawed by the league.

The convolution won't take away from sneakerheads fervently hunting these Air Jordan 1 Banned sneakers down.
