Court Shows No Mercy at Nick Gordon Over Bobbi Kristina's Death

Bobby Brown responds to the dramatic ruling.

Bobbi Kristina Brown's death seems to be the tragedy that will never end. After spending more than six months in a coma, the 22-year-old music scion passed away last July but has still not been able to rest in peace thanks to a civil lawsuit filed against her boyfriend, Nick Gordon, by her family.
Now, however, that suit has come to an end — with a dramatic result. According to USA Today, a Fulton County judge has ordered Gordon to pay $36 million to his ex-girlfriend's family, showing no mercy to the man the Browns accuse of killing their daughter with a "toxic cocktail" of drugs and physical abuse.

The breakdown of the judgment is just as startling as the lump sum itself: “To determine the value of a life is pretty difficult. So the court has been back there primarily struggling with that particular issue,” the judge said.

The judge awarded more than $36 million, broken down as:

$1.575 million for money taken from the account, including alleged stolen rings
$250,000 in punitive damages
$1.37 million for assault and battery
$13.8 million for pain and suffering as a result of assault
$4.2 million in punitive damages
$15 million for present value of life

Bobbi Kristina's father, Bobby Brown, issued a statement saying he was pleased with the ruling, but is pushing for criminal prosecution of Gordon as well. "I am pleased with the outcome of today's court proceedings. I do know that Mr. Gordon will be unable to slander my daughter's name in the future or obtain any benefits from the use of Krissy's name. Finally, I do need the District Attorney's Office to step up and begin the criminal prosecution of Mr. Gordon. The delay in that matter is of great concern to me and my family. We need for District Attorney Howard to act now."

We'll see what happens next, but it's pretty clear that Gordon's life is ruined.
