Garrett Morris To Be Honored With A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

The New Orleans-born actor most recently starred on CBS’s “2 Broke Girls.”

One of our favorite TV uncles is set to be recognized on the streets of Hollywood.

Throughout his journey as a comedy legend, Garrett Morris has had an upbeat career serving heart-warming laughs on-screen. Now, he will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The celebration will occur on Thursday (Feb. 1), that will be attended by Tichina Arnold. This date also falls on the actor's 87th birthday and doubles as the 136th birthday of Hollywood.

The New Orleans-bred actor's career began on stage singing with the Harry Belafonte Singers after he trained at the Julliard School of Music. A decade later, he pivoted into acting, where he appeared in both Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals , including “Porgy and Bess,” “Show Boat,” and “Finian’s Rainbow,” among others.

During the 90s, Morris served audiences laughs while starring in notable sitcoms including, “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “Martin,” and “The Wayans Brothers." He has also had roles in “The Jeffersons," “Married with Children,” and “Family Guy."

Before he had made a name for himself in theater and on the silver screen, Morris appeared on "Saturday Night Live" from 1975 to 1980.

Most recently, he starred in the CBS Emmy-nominated comedy series "2 Broke Girls," which ran for six seasons from 2011-2017. He’s also appeared on the Netflix limited series, “Self-Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker,” “This is Us,” “Scandal,” and “Station 19.”

Morris is not only an actor but also an advocate for the disenfranchised. He was a civil rights activist who worked to desegregate the Actor’s Equity and served as a Black Arts Theater movement member alongside famed poet and playwright Amiri Baraka.

Still, at nearly 90, Morris is not slowing down. He currently owns and operates The LA Blues & Comedy Club in Los Angeles.
