Debbi Morgan to Play Toni Braxton's Mom in TV Biopic
Debbi Morgan has signed on to play Toni Braxton's mother Evelyn in the television biopic Un-Break My Heart, Lifetime announced on Monday. The Power star rounds out the cast, which includes Gavin Houston (Guiding Light) as Braxton's frequent collaborator, producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.
Cortney Scott Wright, Skye P. Marshall (Public Morals) and LaToya Franklyn (Subways) have also been cast as Braxton’s sisters and fellow singers, Traci, Towanda and Trina Braxton. Last week, it was announced that Tiffany Hines (Devious Maids) would play Tamar Braxton and that Lex Scott Davis would play Toni herself.
Un-Break My Heart is based on Toni Braxton’s memoir about her struggles with illness, financial troubles and divorce while navigating her son’s autism and family.
Vondie Curtis-Hall is directing the film, which, unlike previous Lifetime biopics on Aaliyah and Whitney Houston, is an authorized life story with Braxton executive producing and guest-starring in the film.
