Report: A$AP Yams Died of Accidental Overdose
The death of A$AP Yams, a founding member of A$AP Mob, has been ruled an accident by New York City's chief medical examiner.
According to reports from several media outlets, Yams (real name Steven Rodriguez) died from "acute mixed drug intoxication” after taking a cocktail of drugs that included opiates and benzodiazepine. Speculation as to the cause of Yams’s death circulated soon after he was found unresponsive in his New York apartment on January 18. Many suspected drugs were involved given his noted battle with an addiction to codeine and Xanax.
The tragic passing of the 26-year-old Harlem native rocked many in the hip hop community who respected his creative acumen. Yams was the visionary architect behind the New York rap crew’s popular cross-regional sound.
