Fans of the 2006 coming of age story ATL are in for a treat as it has been confirmed by the movie's lead, T.I., that a sequel is under way.
Making the announcement on Instagram, Tip posted a photo of him with director Chris Robinson and co-stars Jackie Long, Albert Daniels and Jason Weaver with the caption, "#ATL2 Get Ready."
Posting the same photo on his personal page, Robinson spoke highly of the film's follow-up, adding, "#ATL WAS A CLASSIC #ATL2 WILL BE LEGENDARY!!! 'AND SO IT BEGINS' THE CREW @troubleman31 @jackielong @itsjasonweaver #RITF #BONG."
The original film is loosely based on the lives and experiences of the film's producers, Dallas Austin and TLC member Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, growing up in Atlanta. It debuted at number three at the box office in 2006, grossing $11.5 million in its opening weekend.
ATL solidified T.I. as a bonafide actor with his portrayal of Rashad, the movie's lead character. Other stars who appeared in the film included Evan Ross, Big Boi and The Game's Lauren London.
While fans of the "Whatever You Like" rapper will wait for the film's release, they can catch him alongside Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell in the comedy Get Hard, which is set to hit theaters on March 27.
