Kevin Garnett Nearly Became a Los Angeles Laker in 2007

The tension between Kobe Bryant and Phil Jackson was too much, so Kevin Garnett joined the Boston Celtics instead.

Can you imagine Kevin Garnett wearing the Los Angeles Lakers' purple and gold?

Apparently Garnett came close to joining the Lakers as a free agent in 2007, but the dysfunction between Kobe Bryant and then-coach Phil Jackson was more than he wanted to deal with, according to Garnett in his interview on the Dan Patrick radio show Thursday.

“What disturbed me about the whole Lakers situation was just Kobe and Phil at the time,” Garnett said on the show. “They were at each other pretty bad, and a new situation full of uncertainty wasn’t something that I wanted to get into ... There was a lot going on and I didn’t want to be part of it.”

Garnett, of course, joined the Boston Celtics that year and led them to the 2008 NBA title over the Lakers.

But you are still left to wonder what the tandem of Garnett and Bryant could have accomplished. Chances are the duo could have produced at least three NBA championships for the Lakers. Unfortunately, we’ll never know.

Garnett didn't limit himself to the past, however; he also talked about the current labor negotiations.
Asked if he trusts the owners, he responded, “You trust no one in this. You never trust the other side.”
