Beyoncé Opens Kobe Bryant Memorial With Heartrending Performance Of 'XO' And 'Halo'
Fans and celebrities alike descended up the Staples Center in Los Angeles for “A Celebration of Life: Remembering Kobe and Gianna Bryant” on Monday (Feb. 24). The memorial began with a snapshot of interviews that Bryant had done over the years before it segued into the first performance of the day.
Backed up by a choir and orchestra, Beyoncé came out on stage dressed in a golden pantsuit where she sang renditions of “XO” and “Halo.”
“I'm here because I love Kobe and this was one of his favorite songs. So, I want to start that over but I want us to do it all together, and I want you to sing it so loud that he’ll hear your love,” Beyoncé said before she resumed performing “XO.”
At the end of the emotional performance she blew a kiss and mouthed “I love you” to Bryant’s wife, Vanessa, as she exited the stage.
