Cam Newton Under Fire For Sexist Comments About Women ‘Who Don’t Know How To Be Quiet’
Cam Newton is receiving some pretty heavy backlash after some of his comments about women are being criticized as sexist and tone-deaf in tone and nature.
The NFL free-agent quarterback, who played for the Panthers last season, appeared on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast on Sunday (April 10) to discuss his beliefs on how women show carry themselves, basing his claims on the image of manhood he saw during his childhood.
“I had a perfect example of what a man was in my life by father. My parents have been together for 36, 37 years now and it’s a beautiful thing,” Newton started off before explaining the foundation of his upbringing. “I grew up in a three-parent household. My mom, my father, and my grandmother. And I knew what a woman was. Not a bad bitchh!”
The host soon asked the 32-year-old father of seven to explain what he thought the difference was between a woman and a “bad bitch.”
To which Newton answered, “A bad bitch is a person who’s just, you know, ‘Girl I’m a bad bitch, I’m doing this, I’m doing that.’ I look the part but I don’t act the part.”
Further clarifying, “There’s a lot of women who are bad bitches. And I say bitches in a way, not to degrade a woman but just to go off the aesthetic of what they deem is a boss chick.
“Now a woman for me is handling your own but knowing how to cater to a man’s needs. Right? And I think a lot of times when you get that aesthetic of ‘I’m a boss bitch, Imma this, Imma that.’ No baby! But you can’t cook. You don’t know when to be quiet! You don’t know how to allow a man to lead,” Newton added.
This isn’t the first time that the athletes' comments on women have caused quite a stir.
Back in 2017, when he still had a role in the NFL quarterbacking for the Carolina Panthers, Newton made a comment in a room full of reporters at a press conference that the idea of newsrooms with female football writers was comical, The Charlotte Observer notes.
Former Charlotte Observer reporter Jourdan Rodrigue asked Newton about football “routes” and his answer veered off-topic.
"It's funny to hear a female talk about routes like — it's funny," Newton said according to the outlet.
The Carolina Panthers confirmed that Newton later apologized to Rodrigue, but the reporter said in an official statement that Newton reportedly never apologized for his comments.
