If by now you haven’t heard Future’s tag of, "If Young Metro don't trust you I’m gon' shoot you," yet, you probably aren’t following rap that closely these days. It’s gotten so popular and so much use that even Kanye West had it on his most recent album, The Life of Pablo.

Recently, Young Metro (or Metro Boomin’) sat down with DJ Drama and explained where the line came from. He says its origin was from a few different places including ones we already had heard it on prior to some of its newest inclusions on songs.

"I’ve been using that as a tag in beats since about August," he recalled. "’Jumpman’ – before the song was recorded – that beat already said that. We had did this one with Uncle Murda one time, and one of the lines that Future said in there was 'If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gonna shoot you.' When he said that it had a different tone, but I remember when we were in the studio he had another tone, which is the one that’s the tag that was just like muted. I just made sure to go back on the session and just get it and just go HAM with it.”

Metro Boomin’ also talked about the tag being used on T.L.O.P. and says ‘Ye couldn’t stop replaying it while they were in the studio together.

"I had a sense that he liked it," he said, "Because we were in the studio before, and you know the Kanye dance he does when he's doing his thing? He was just going crazy doing that and saying, ‘Young Metro don't trust you…’"

It was commonly held thought that the line first appeared on Uncle Murda's song "Right Now" where Future utters the tag amongst other people he would protect if they don't trust you. That song was released around the time Drake put out "Jumpman."
