Meet Team USA's Youngest Olympic Track and Field Star: Sydney McLaughlin

This sprinter and hurdler's game is mean.

Sydney McLaughlin has great perspective, despite being so young.

Just a week removed from turning 17, the youngest member of USA's track and field team had her first Olympics end Tuesday by placing fifth (56.22 seconds) in the 400-meter hurdles semifinals and failing to qualify for Thursday night's medal final.

Despite the disappointment, the New Jersey native showed wisdom beyond her youth, telling NBC that the finish marked the end of her stint in Rio, but adding that her best days are in front of her.

That being said, McLaughlin's experience with these Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has been priceless.

"It's going to help me," McLaughlin said after coming up short, as reported by NJ.com. "I didn't run the race I wanted to, but now I know what it's like to be here and go through this kind of thing and have the pressures of sleeping in a dorm room and seeing your competition in the food halls. It's just practice and getting ready for the future."

She added: "This wasn't my time. It just showed that this is not the time for me. Just being here is amazing for me."

Sydney definitely has the right attitude. We wouldn't be surprised to see her back in the Tokyo Games in 2020.
