BET Awards 2022: 5 Tracks That Led to Giveon’s 2021 ‘Best New Artist’ Win
During the BET Awards 2021 R&B newcomer Giveon triumphed over several talented acts, including Coi Leray, Flo Milli, Jack Harlow, Latto, and Pooh Shiesty, for bragging rights as "Best New Artist". Since then, the California native has appeared on several smash hits with of the music industry’s biggest player’s including Grammy Award-winning Canadian rapper Drake, who enlisted the 27-year-old for his 2020 single “Chicago Freestyle.” Shortly after he released two EPs including Take Time which earned him a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album.
Giveon has been making strides in the music science since opening for R&B songstress Snoh Alegra, so it’s no surprise he was crowned last year’s Best New Artist. Ahead of this year’s BET Awards 2022, hosted by actress Taraji P.Henson on Sunday, June 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT,

“Like I Want You”
Giveon reminisces over a past romance in the lead single off his debut studio project Take Time. The rising star has often said in interviews that the song was written in the perspective of a close friend rather than in a personal position.
“Chicago Freestyle”
Toronto-born rap star Drake gave Giveon the ultimate co-sign when he featured the baritone crooner on his 2020 record “Chicago Freestyle” featured on the rapper’s mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes.
“Garden Kisses”
Before collaborating with singers such as Justin Bieber and Daniel Caesar, Giveon was touring with just a handful of songs—roughly produced—including his debut single "Garden Kisses.” The song caught the attention of Canadian record producer Sevn Thomas, who found him on a random playlist on SoundCloud, and later signed him to his record label Not So Fast and Epic Records.

“Still Your Best”
“Still Your Best” was one of many standout tracks. on When It’s All Said And Done. The four-track EP follow-up to his debut release Take Time.
“Heartbreak Anniversary”
“Heartbreak Anniversary” is arguably Giveon’s most successful record to date. As the second lead single off his debut album Take Time released in Feb. 2020 this slow-tempo ballad earned the songwriter several award nominations including “Best R&B Song” at the 64th annual Grammy Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards including one for “Song of the Summer.”
