Sheila E. Reveals Prince Recorded A Solo Version Of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” And Why It Never Was Released
We were so close to a Prince and Michael Jackson collaboration, according to Sheila E.
Despite the two pop stars being at odds and viewed as major rivals, the drummer revealed on “The Jason Show” that the two icons were actually cool with each other and even "hung out" together. This led to the drummer sharing a never-before-told story about Prince almost recording a solo version of the certified platinum record “Bad.”
“So we get the song 'Bad' from Michael and we're here at Paisley Park,” she began.
“And Prince is like, 'Wait a minute.' He said, 'Michael wants me to sing this song with him.' So he played it for us. He goes, 'Your butt is mine...' He said, 'What?! Your butt is mine?' And he just walked away, he said, 'Uh, uh.'"
She continued, explaining how she helped the “Purple Rain” singer re-record the record at his Minnesota studio.
“It was so funky, it was so amazing. It was an incredible rendition of what it should've been. And then after we recorded it, we're like, 'Oh my God, we can't wait for Michael to hear it.”
Unfortunately, Prince’s version never reached Jackson’s ears as the percussionist revealed after the session, Prince erased the entire record in front of her.
"Oh yeah, it was fun. We did that all the time, though. I can name so many songs that we re-recorded that was sent to us. Ah, that's another show,” she shared.
