Cam’Ron Reveals How He Squashed Beef With Jay-Z
Making an appearance on Tidal’s Rap Radar Podcast, Diplomats flagbearer, Cam’Ron, dropped all of the details on how he extended an olive branch to Jay-Z at the Tidal-sponsored sequel B-Sides 2 show at Webster Hall earlier this year.
From blow-for-blow diss records and rising tensions between the two, Cam and Hov’s history of beef dates back to the early 2000’s. But as their public hatchet burial proves, it’s never too late to turn over a new leaf.
The “Hey Ma,” rapper explained to Rap Radar how the performance came about. “It wasn’t really big conversations,” he said. “Jim [Jones] called me and said ‘Jay wants you to perform. ‘I said, ‘Cool, it’s not a problem.’ And then [OG] Juan called me with Jay-Z, we spoke for about three to four minutes.”
“[We] talked just to smooth everything out,” he further explained. “Everybody was cool, we ain’t talk about no bullsh*t or nothing. And then we did the show. We spoke the next day for a minute and that was that.” Hov surprised fans when he brought Cam’ron on stage to perform their 2002 track, “Welcome to New York City.”
Cam also recollected a few memories from his Roc-A-Fella days under the rule of Jay. “When I had to do what I had to do, I had to get six signatures to do anything, (they were) Lyor Cohen’s, Julie Greenwald, Kevin Liles, Biggs, Jay-Z, and Dame [Dash] and Jay-Z signed off on anything whether it was Diplomats, Juelz, or anything that I did,” he said. “Maybe we might not have been on the same page. personally, but business-wise he never held me up from doing anything.”
