Plaxico Burress will remain in New York after all.

He will just be playing for the other team.

The formerly imprisoned and recently reinstated wide receiver agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets that will pay him $3 million. This comes after a difficult last two years in which Burress, then with the New York Giants, mistakenly shot himself in a Manhattan nightclub and had to spend 20 months in prison because of strict New York gun laws.

"It's emotional because I had some long days and some long nights, and you dream about that day, getting back to what you love," Burress said on a conference call. "That time has come."

Indeed it has. But it was never in doubt whether the talented 33-year-old receiver would get another shot at playing. It was more a matter of where he would play. There was the possibility of him returning to either the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Giants. But St. Louis, Philadelphia and San Francisco were also interested.

In fact, Burress was a layover on his way to visit with the 49ers this weekend when the call from the Jets came.

Burress still owns a home in New Jersey and his wife works in the area. He saw this as the best case scenario all the way around. He gets to stay in familiar surroundings and now he will play for a team that is at the door waiting to break into the Super Bowl.

The Jets should have one of the most formidable receiving duos it’s had in a long time with Burress lining up opposite Santonio Holmes.

"It's going to be special, man," said Burress of his teaming with Holmes. "We'll both be excited because we know we can both dominate games and make big plays. I don't think I've had the opportunity to play with a guy that explosive on the other side of me. I think we're going to complement each other real well ... I think we're going to drive defensive coordinators crazy."
