Dreamville's New Signee Ari Lennox Shares Debut Visuals
Ari Lennox is a rising artist proving she's more than worthy of being added to any 2016 music enthusiast's "next up" radar.
The 25-year-old soul singer began making headlines late last year when it was announced that she became the first female recording artist to sign to J. Cole's Dreamville Records imprint.
The Washington, D.C., native garnered the attention of the label boss himself through her creative YouTube covers, where she'd add her own jazzy, unique spin on classic songs from artists such as Aaliyah, Bilal and Tweet, as well as through a project she self-released in 2014. She first met J. Cole back in May of 2015 and just over six months later she announced she officially signed a contract, joining his roster alongside another new signee, Lute.
Today (October 14) Lennox shares her debut music video for the DJ Grumble-produced track"Backseat," featuring a guest verse from her labelmate Cozz.
"I'm excited that a song I randomly threw on Soundcloud had gotten this far and I'm happy to see where it goes from here," Lennox eagerly shared in an interview with The Fader. "I wanted the video to just be fun and colorful, so we found a few locations in Atlanta and just went with it."
Her next EP, Pho, is due out on October 21.
