Sad news to report. Actress and singer Della Reese passed away last night at her California home, according to Variety. She was 86 years old.

Della was an entertainment legend. She got her break as a singer in the 1950s and 1960s, even earning a No. 2 pop hit with 1959's “Don’t You Know." However, after years of grinding, she became a household name when she starred in Touched by an Angel from 1994 to 2003.
Della also appeared in countless films like 1996's A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, 2005's Beauty Shop and, of course, her classic role as Vera in 1989's Harlem Nights.
