Today (Oct. 9), the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the theme of the 2025 Met Gala, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." 

According to Vogue, the exhibit is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The outlet added that it will “feature garments, paintings, photographs, and more—all exploring the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism from the 18th century through [the] present day.” 

In an Instagram post, the outlet revealed that this is the first Met Gala focused exclusively on menswear since 2003’s gala theme “Men in Skirts”. It's also the first time a guest curator has been involved since Andrew Bolton became Curator in Charge.

Anna Wintour, who has chaired the event since 1995, will be joined this year by Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, and Lewis Hamilton as co-chairs. Making it even more exciting, LeBron James will attend as an honorary co-chair for his first-ever Met Gala. 

While many were excited about the announcement of the new co-chairs for next year's Met Gala, some expressed concern about how the theme would be executed. One user on X voiced their apprehension, writing, “Every [non-Black] person walking the Met Gala carpet needs to consult a credible team of regular Black people... because I foresee a series of faux pas that can be easily avoided.”

The Met Gala, traditionally held on the first Monday in May every year, will be held on May 5, 2025.
