Soul singer Jean Knight has reportedly passed away. She was 80.
According to TMZ, Knight died last Wednesday (November 22) in New Orleans of natural causes. A press release provided to the outlet from her family confirmed the news.
"Jean Knight's legacy is not just a musical one; it is a testament to the enduring love between an artist, her hometown, and the fans who adored her,” the statement reads in part. “As we bid farewell to this iconic soulstress, New Orleans and her global fan base join together in gratitude for the indelible mark she left on the world." The family also requests privacy at this time.

Knight is best known for her 1971 hit “Mr. Big Stuff.” Additionally, she spent a storied career at JetStream Records and eventually jumped to Stax Records – all while starting her label, Comstar.
“Mr. Big Stuff” spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Soul Singles Chart, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also featured in countless films and TV shows.
