The Weeknd Moves Album Release Date, Cancels Rose Bowl Concert Out of ‘Respect’ for L.A. Residents

The artist says he intends to support the 'recovery' of L.A. residents amid the wildfires.

The Weeknd has pulled the plug on his scheduled Rose Bowl concert in addition to postponing his sixth studio album.

After weeks of anticipation, on Monday, January 13, the 4-time Grammy winner announced on social media that he’d be changing plans for his LP rollout out of “respect” for L.A. residents affected in the city-wide wildfires. The natural disaster, which began last Tuesday, January 7, with the vicious Santa Ana winds, has resulted in the burning of over 40,000 acres across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, 12,000 destroyed structures, and a current number of 24 fatalities.

With The Weeknd’s Rose Bowl stadium concert originally set for Sunday, January 19, the show has officially been cancelled, while his sixth LP, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” has gone from a January 24 release date to January 31.

“Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, I am canceling the Rose Bowl concert originally scheduled for January 25th,” read a statement posted by the singer on social media.

“This city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. In light of this, I have also decided to push the release of my album to January 31st,” he continued. “My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”

Following “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is a psychological thriller film of the same name, starring The Weeknd, Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. The movie’s theatrical release is set for May 16, 2025.
