Tyler The Creator Announced As A Performer At The 2020 Grammys
Tyler the Creator enjoyed a marquee 2019 since the release of his critically-acclaimed, self-produced fifth studio album, IGOR.
The project earned Tyler his first No. 1 album after he pulled off a surprising upset over DJ Khaled’s blockbuster affair, Father of Asahd. By November of 2019, the 12-track album had also received a Grammy nod for Best Rap Album at the forthcoming 2020 Grammy Awards. Previously, Tyler’s Flower Boy was nominated for the same accolade in 2017.
In the leadup to the Recording Academy’s 62nd annual ceremony, the institute has been slowly but surely rolling out tidbits of the performers slated to take the stage this year, and on Tuesday (Jan. 14), they finally revealed that Tyler will perform at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
He joins a handful of other pop culture favorites like Ariana Grande, Rosalía, H.E.R., the Jonas Brothers and hip-hop’s iconic vet squad Run-DMC for this year’s set of performers slated to take the stage on January 26. Tyler confirmed the exciting news on Twitter and Instagram where he uploaded two photos revealing the news. One picture showed a flyer announcing his upcoming performance at the ceremony while the second showed a photo of a billboard with a similar announcement.
It’s the perfect follow-up to his above-mentioned 2019, as the year proved to be a standout one for the former Odd Future frontman. Among his list of notable achievements, the Wall Street Journal crowned Tyler their 2019 Music Innovator and he also recently surprise-dropped two never-before-heard tracks that were cut during recording sessions for IGOR on YouTube.
Thus, we can’t wait to see what Tyler the Creator has in store for his stage at the 2020 Grammys.
