Before his birthday show at Madison Square Garden last night (Jan. 28), J. Cole shared a couple of presents with fans. The 29-year-old rapper announced via Twitter that his Dreamville Records imprint secured a deal with Interscope Records.
He preceded the label news by dropping the Revenge of the Dreamers compilation mixtape. "A gift for you from Dreamville. Celebration," tweeted Cole. "Thank you for the Birthday love. Much Love to Interscope."
Assembled on the 11 tracks are all the members of the Dreamville imprint — Cole, Bas, KQuick, and Omen — as well as an original version of Cole's TLC-assisted single "Crooked Smile."
He expanded on the Interscope collaboration by way of a tweet titled "1-888-88-Dream" and the photo message, "This s--- started back in '07 summertime. Muhammad crib. (Check the logo on the back of the come up.) Dreamville partnered with Interscope Records (RIP Pac!). Congrats to the Dreamville staff, the movement. This is only the beginning. Enjoy the tape!"
The gift-giving continued later in the night with fans at MSG receiving hard copies of Revenge of the Dreamers.
