2023 NAACP Image Awards: 5 Things to Know About Actor and Choreographer Nicco Annan
Breakout star Nicco Annan has been heating up television with his performance as the eclectic, non-binary strip club owner Uncle Clifford on Starz’s hit series P-Valley.
During the 54th annual NAACP Image Awards, hosted by actress and producer Queen Latifah, Annan took home the “Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series” award beating several talented actors, including Damson Idris, Jabari Banks, Kofi Siriboe, and Sterling K. Brown. In honor of another fantastic celebration of Black excellence in Hollywood, get to know this year’s winner with these five facts.
He starred in the original P-Valley
Before Katori Hall’s hit drama, P-Valley, was picked up by Starz network, the series was initially a play called Pu**y Valley. In it, Annon portrayed his television character Uncle Clifford.
He’s also a choreographer
Nicco is not only a thespian but also a choreographer earning credits in shows including This is Us, All American, and the play Expatriate.
He’s a huge Kendrick Lamar fan
While speaking with the Strategist, Annon spoke about his love for rapper Kenrick Lamar. “I appreciate hip-hop that tells a true story, and his is really inspirational. It’s encouraging, you know, to the music world. To me. As an artist, I find it really dope,” he told the outlet.
“I would probably say ‘Auntie Diaries’ or ‘We Cry Together’ are my favorite songs so far,” Annan said, the West coast emcee’s latest release Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers.

He’s from Michigan
Annan was raised in Detroit, Michigan, before moving to New York, where he studied theater at the State University of New York-Purchase. His mother is from the south, and his father is from Ghana.

Before stealing the spotlight on P-Valley, Annan made several appearances on popular shows, including, Claws, Shameless, This is Us, Snowfall, and Netflix’s Family Reunion.
