Janet Jackson Recalls Wardrobe Malfunction While Performing for Queen Elizabeth

She humorously shared that her pants split open at the back during the incident back in the 90s.

While looking back on some of her most iconic fashion looks with British Vogue, Janet Jackson revealed a huge wardrobe malfunction she encountered while performing for Queen Elizabeth. She said that her pants split up her backside when she was dancing.

The “Feedback” singer told the outlet about the incident when she was shown the outfit she wore for her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 1990 and the ensemble that became synonymous with her hit album Rhythm Nation 1814.

Janet explained that her all-black outfit was inspired by Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. The original design featured a mock neck and a silver plate. However, she enhanced the look by adding several more silver plates with the help of fashion designer Bill Whitten, whom she discovered through her brothers.

“He did a wonderful job, a beautiful job," she said. "Funny story about this outfit. I was performing for the Queen of England, and we were doing 'Rhythm Nation.' Sure enough, as soon as I squatted, my pants split right in my booty crack. I couldn't believe it happened. I thought, oh my God. And then I started feeling air back there, so I knew it had really happened."

Janet added that she was very careful to avoid turning her back to the Queen, ensuring she wouldn’t “flash” her accidentally. To prevent this, she said, “I just faced forward” for the rest of the performance.

During an appearance on BBC’s “Radio 2 Breakfast Show” last month, the Grammy Award-winner revealed that her relatives include several major Hollywood names. When host Scott Mills asked Janet whether it was true that she was related to Stevie Wonder, Jackson replied, “He’s our cousin. Not a lot of people know that. He’s our cousin on my mother’s side. So is Tracy Chapman. So is Samuel Jackson.”
