Bobby Shmurda $2 Million Bail Package Withdrawn

Rapper remains in jail after court rejects payment.

Despite hopes that he would soon be released on bond, it looks like Bobby Shmurda will continue his stay at Manhattan Detention Complex for at least a little while longer. The New York Times reports that the $2 million bail package that semi-celebrity bail bondsman Ira Judelson put up for the 20-year-old rapper last week has been withdrawn.

"It’s our understanding that the suretor has withdrawn and that no hearing is currently scheduled," said Kati Cornell, a spokeswoman for the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for New York City.

Shmurda's attorney, Kenneth J. Montgomery, had previously noted that the funds would be subject to a government examination to determine the origins of the money. He told the NYT today that the initial bail arrangement was on hold and, “We’re trying to do a new bond application and are in the process in the figuring that out [sic]. We’re hoping to get it done within the next week.”

Montgomery told Complex, "The average income of a household in Brooklyn is 44k. Mr. Pollard has not shot or killed anyone, nor has he been in possession of any drugs. However, his bail is $2 million. As a result of the bail amount we are dotting our I's and crossing our T's to make sure the package is approved by the Court."

Shmurda, né Ackquille Pollard, and several GS9 crew members were arrested last December as part of a long-term narcotics operation. Complex reports that the total charges now number 101, with six of them directly attributed to Shmurda: four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, and two counts of criminal possesion of a firearm.

Making bail would help Shmurda return to his family in Brooklyn, pending his April court date.
