Da Internz Respond to Bangladesh's Biting Accusations
Even with hits like Lil Wayne’s "A Milli" and Beyoncé’s "Diva" in his impressive catalog, Bangladesh sometimes doesn’t let his beats do the talking. Last week he had the gossip mills talking when he called Swizz Beatz "irrelevant," before walking his comments back. But that wasn’t the first time Bangladesh had talked slick about fellow beatmakers. Last month he called out Da Internz, accusing the production duo of "stealing my swag" with their beats for Rihanna’s "Birthday Cake" and Big Sean’s "Dance [A--]." But like Swizz — who called Bangladesh a "clown" — Da Internz aren’t taking his insults lying down. In an exclusive sit-down with BET.com, the Chicago-raised twosome responded to Bangladesh’s comments, and took the high road — sort of.
"I thought it was cute," Tuo, one half of the hit-making pair, said of Bangladesh’s saber-rattling. "I thought it was the cutest little thing. If we didn’t have ‘Cake’ and we didn’t have ‘A--’ nobody would be having a conversation about us, period. With success it brings different things, and that just let us know we were on the right path."
"Where we from we call that sneak dissing," added Kosine. "Everybody dreams when they go to bed at night, but when you wake up it’s just not reality. A lot of people don’t like accepting what’s new and that’s fine, but we’re here for a reason. We’re not going to get caught up in the madness. We’re from the deprived parts of Chicago — we’re not going to walk backwards just because somebody speaks their opinions about us and dreams about things that are not true. We’re a new breed and we ain’t going nowhere. Cats really need to get used to us."
Although certainly Bangladesh isn’t a fan, Da Internz have other bold-face supporters. Aside from Rihanna and Sean, Da Interns have also worked with Nas and have upcoming heat on forthcoming albums from Ludacris and Nelly. Tuo explained that these co-signs make it that much easier to ignore Bangladesh.
"We’ve been super-blessed to spend quality time in the studio with the greats and others we look up to," he said. "The words and encouragement we’ve gotten from Timbaland, Pharrell and other people, it’s just so encouraging that at this point certain things just don’t matter."
Da Internz also shared that they recently found a new fan: LL Cool J, who let the duo sample his 1990 classic "Jinglin' Baby" for Ludacris’ recent hit “Jingalin'.” Kosine admits, though, that they were nervous when they played the Queens legend the song.
"We were worried about whether or not it would get cleared because LL had just shot down a couple of samples," he recalled. "So we actually had to go see LL at his office in Hollywood and play it for him. Me, Tuo, Luda and Shaka [Zulu, Ludacris’ manager] went up to his office and literally had to sit in a waiting room while he went in a room with some headphones and soaked up the song. We was out there holding hands praying like, ‘Please Lord, let LL like the song.’ [Laughs] And he just came right out, licked his lips one time, and said, ‘Let’s get money fellas. Let’s get money.’”
No disrespect to LL, but with Da Internz’s multi-platinum catalog, it appears they’re already doing just that.
