Trayvon Martin’s Brother Interns With Rep. Frederica Wilson
Jahvaris Fulton, Trayvon Martin’s brother, landed a congressional internship with the Democratic Florida Representative, Frederica Wilson, in her Miami Gardens office.
According to Wilson’s office, he is a participant in the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, which was founded by Wilson as a dropout-prevention and mentoring program for at-risk boys in Miami-Dade schools.
In the wake of Martin’s death, Wilson had introduced a congressional resolution in his honor. The resolution called for the repeal of "Stand Your Ground" laws and asked the U.S. government to address racial profiling.
“My role in this case has been to help ensure that Mr. Zimmerman faces a court of law. While I am profoundly disappointed with the ruling in this case, the criminal portion of the process has run its course,” Wilson said. “I encourage Trayvon’s parents to pursue vindication of their rights under civil law. I will support the family in any way possible.”
Fulton is currently a student at Florida International University.
