DC Mansion Murder Suspect Didn't Act Alone, Police Say

Daron Dylan Wint likely had help to hold family hostage.

Daron Dylon Wint, the ex-convict accused of murdering a wealthy Washington, D.C. family and their housekeeper, probably didn't act alone, according to new court documents in the case.
Wint was arrested Friday night for the murders of businessman Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, their 10-year-old son Philip and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa, after he allegedly took the family captive on May 18.
Though Wint, who previously worked for Savopoulos's company American Iron Works, is the only person charged at this point, authorities think the killings "required the presence and assistance of more than one person," according to court documents obtained by CBS News.

According to the police report, an assistant to Savopoulous dropped off a bag containing $40,000 in cash to the residence, implying that Wint and his cohorts had been holding the family hostage until the ransom had been paid. The perpetrators then killed the family and housekeeper before setting fire to the house and fleeing the scene.
It was DNA left on a slice of discarded pepperoni pizza that helped police identify the 34-year-old, who has a long rap sheet for multiple crimes. He was traveling with five others — three men and two women — when he was apprehended. It's not clear whether any of those people were involved in the murders.
