Reflecting on how hosting has impacted her personally, Hudson shared how it has enhanced her ability to listen and connect. "Oh my goodness, it can’t help but to rub off on me. It’s like a gift when I’m speaking with guests – it makes me feel connected," she said. "Listening is a huge part of it, and in my personal life, people often tell me I’m a great listener. I never really thought about it before, but hosting has truly poured into my life and artistry."

At 43, Hudson explained that her curiosity extends well beyond the set. Even in her personal life, she often finds herself engaging with people eager to share their stories. "Before I became a talk show host, people would come up to me and tell me their stories. I remember each one because I’m actively listening," she noted.

This skill has also found its way into her music. "It pours into my artistry as well, even musically. When you hear this Christmas album, you’ll feel the storytelling aspect that I’ve been told I have," Hudson explained.

The EGOT recipient is releasing her first Christmas album in a decade, a project she describes as deeply personal. "I’ve always wanted to do a holiday album, despite the many albums and singing I’ve done in my career. This is the chapter of my life where I’m doing what I want to do," she revealed. After 20 years of meeting others' expectations, this project feels uniquely hers. "Vocally, I know myself more now. I’ve grown in terms of being not just a vocalist, but an artist. My voice has often been used for different things, but this album reflects me in every way," she said.

When discussing potential collaborations, Hudson hinted that while the album is predominantly hers, there are "little nuggets" throughout. She teased, "It’s a never-ending Christmas album. It’s to be continued."

On the topic of timelessness, especially as Christmas albums often hold lasting appeal, Hudson humbly shared, "I’ve never thought of myself as timeless, but I think being authentic and coming from a real place helps." She believes that what resonates with people and creates lasting memories is the key to timeless art. "I try to lead with my heart in everything I do," she said, adding that this authenticity is central to her identity.

The "Dreamgirls" star also touched on the musical duets featured on her show. When asked whom she’d love to sing with, she mentioned Andrea Bocelli, who is slated to appear this season. This led to a lighthearted moment as Hudson discussed her 2011 song "Think Like a Man," which includes a much-debated vocal run. "That was a sample," Hudson laughed, "but that doesn’t mean Jennifer can’t sing it live. You’ll have to ask Ne-Yo about that one!"

Reflecting on the personal reunions with influential figures on her show, Hudson expressed how those moments have shaped its format. "In my show, we’re all here together—it’s not just me and the guest, it’s unity and togetherness," she explained. She believes the sense of healing, joy, and authenticity she brings to her platform is what sets it apart. "The audience doesn’t have to be here, but they come to see little ole me, and that means everything. I want to meet everyone where they are, find our joy, and choose joy together," she concluded.

"The Jennifer Hudson Show's" new season premieres on September 16.
