Fatman Scoop's Cause of Death Revealed

The legendary rapper and hypeman died on Aug. 30 after collapsing onstage.

The cause of Fatman Scoop's death has been confirmed. According to PEOPLE, the Connecticut Medical Examiner's Office announced that he passed away due to hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. His death was deemed natural, with no suspicion of foul play.

The beloved rapper and hype man was taken to the hospital on Aug. 30 after he collapsed onstage during a concert at Town Center Park. TMZ reported that authorities were called to the venue at 8:33 p.m. local time for a medical emergency. The outlet also shared footage showing multiple people attending to Fatman Scoop as they appeared to move him from the stage.

The day after the “Be Faithful” hitmaker’s passing, a statement titled "A message from the Freeman family" was posted on his official Instagram page, confirming the tragic news. "Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life," it read.

"Fatman Scoop was not just a world-class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle, and a friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage," the statement continued. "Fatman Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but not forgotten."

The family concluded, "As we mourn the loss of Fatman Scoop, we also celebrate his remarkable life and the countless lives he touched. Fatman Scoop's legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and our memories forever."
