Usher Says His Family Was Shocked When He and Jennifer Goicoechea Got Married
Usher's marriage to Jennifer Goicoechea was a surprise to their loved ones.
On Saturday night (March 16) while at the NAACP Image Awards, the eight-time Grammy winner opened up to Entertainment Tonight about his Las Vegas nuptials and revealed the milestone left their family stunned.
"It was an incredible moment," Usher said of marrying Goicoechea, whom he shares two kids with: daughter Sovereign Bo, 3, and a son, Sire Castrello, 2. The R&B superstar is also dad to Usher "Cinco" Raymond V, 16 and Naviyd Ely, 15, from a previous relationship.
"My mother was there, her mother was there, our kids were there, our immediate family was there," he continued.
While he described their wedding as a "button at the end of an incredible Las Vegas run," he admits their family was shocked.
"Matter of fact, everybody was surprised," he remembered. "I'm like, 'No no no no, we're having a wedding right now.' They're like, 'What?'"
Usher told them he and Goicoechea were "gonna go have Elvis officiate us."
While the real Elvis was not present for their special moment, they did make it official.
In February, Usher and Goicoechea tied the knot before his Super Bowl halftime show performance at The Fast Lane drive-way tunnel in Las Vegas, as reported by PEOPLE. He also said they are currently planning to have an "incredible, over-the-top wedding," in the future.
Days after their Vegas wedding, Usher shared moments of their big day on Instagram.
