MSNBC Cancels The Reid Report With Joy Reid
In efforts to spark a much-needed ratings boost, MSNBC has dropped its afternoon program hosted by African-American political commentator Joy Reid, the Daily Beast reports.
The network announced the cancellation of The Reid Report on Thursday.
Moving forward, Reid will be retained as MSNBC's national correspondent across their various platforms and contribute to the network's primetime shows. Politico reports that she will also become the first dedicated reporter for NowThisNews, an MSNBC online partner.
"When one door closes, others open," Reid tweeted earlier this morning. "Much love to my Twitter fam, my co-workers at @msnbc and to @thereidreport team for all the love today!"
The network also announced the cancellation of Ronan Farrow Daily, a millennial-minded daytime program hosted by Ronan Farrow. According to the Daily Beast, Reid and Farrow's programs "tanked" in both overall ratings and the crucial 25-to-54 viewer age demographic, on which advertising rates are based.
Some media experts say the recent axing is only the start of a wider programming shakeup at MSBNC.
