Watch The Trailer For ‘Elvis’ Biopic Starring Tom Hanks, Austin Butler And Yola
Austin Butler and Tom Hanks are starring as Elvis Presley and Col. Tom Parker, respectively, in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis. On Thursday (February 17), the trailer for the highly-anticipated film dropped to provide a sneak peak.
In the trailer, Parker narrates: "There are some who make me out to be the villain of this here story."
Perhaps one of the more amazing elements of the trailer is towed the beginning as young Elvis Presley finds himself by the Gospel circuit. The circuit will be headlined by Sister Rosetta, portrayed by British singer Yola.
Later in the trailer, as Butler’s Elvis provides an amazing performance at the very start of his stage days, Parker’s attention is caught by the young singer’s talent. "Are you born with destiny? Or does it just come knocking at your door?" Parker says. "At that moment I watched that skinny boy transform into a superhero. He was my destiny."
Speaking to the young Elvis, Parker says, "I wish to promote you, Mr. Presley. Are you ready to fly?" Presley replies, "I'm ready, ready to fly."
As Elvis’ career rises at a meteoric pace, controversy surrounds him, particularly for his performance style and dance moves in an old-fashioned 1950s.
"Some people want to put me in jail, the way I was moving," Presley reflects. "I can't move, I can't sing."
The trailer then moves onto Elvis attempting to trace back his gospel music origins.
Along with Butler and Hanks, the movie stars Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla Presley and will "delve into their complex dynamic spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and the loss of innocence in America,” according to PEOPLE.
Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis is due out in theaters on June 24, 2022.
