Jonathan Majors’ Press Tour Highlights the Support of Black Women Amid Hollywood Comeback
Jonathan Majors’ Hollywood reemergence is in effect ahead of the premiere of his new movie, “Magazine Dreams.”
During Majors’ recent press cycle, on Wednesday, March 19, the actor was a guest on the talk show Sherri, where host Sherri Shepherd tearfully expressed that the sports drama moved her and her son, Jeffrey, 19.
“You find out that his childhood was a bit difficult, and therefore he moves through the world in a different way,” Majors said about his portrayal of Killian Maddox in the film around the 32-minute mark of the video below.
Shepherd began to cry heavily, expressing that her son “moves through the world in a different way.” “So to see you portray this character—it touched my heart. So that’s why I cry because you so beautifully portrayed this man,” she continued. “It really meant something to me watching that movie, when I watched you, Jonathan, you’re so beautiful in it.”
The support of Black women, including Majors’ new wife, Meagan Good, and entertainment veteran, Whoopi Goldberg, have been crucial to his return to acting. It’s been over a year after Majors was convicted of minor assault and harassment involving his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, and on Monday, March 17, a recorded phone call audio surfaced of Majors admitting to strangling her. In a new interview with Variety, Majors responded to Black women potentially being on the fence about accepting him with open arms.
However, Majors opened up about the “queens” in his life, calling Good “extremely supportive, extremely present, extremely loving and caring.”
“A lot of the queens I run into in the street say, ‘Hey, we love you brother. Keep your head up,’” he continued. “I’ve prayed with countless Black women on the street corner in New York City. I feel that love and I feel that support, and I’m so grateful for it. They’ve kept me afloat. My heart, my spirit, my mind.”
