Eminem Comes Out of the Closet in The Interview
Eminem comes out of the closet in his cameo for The Interview. In a scene opposite James Franco, the Detroit native opens up about leaving “breadcrumb trails of gayness” throughout his lyrics.
“It’s like, if I say something about women, or whatever, I think a lot of that is more or less me dealing with old issues with my mom,” Em explains to Franco’s character. “When I say things about gay people, or people think that my lyrics are homophobic — it’s because I’m gay.”
Franco’s character asks him to elaborate (“Because ‘gay’ can mean a lot of things,” he points out). “I am a homosexual. I like men,” replies Em.
He adds, “I’m more shocked that people haven’t figured it out yet. I mean it’s kind like I’ve been playing ‘gay peek-a-boo.’”
Em's gay confession is all one big scripted joke, of course. He's one of many celebrity cameos in the comedy flick, starring Franco and Seth Rogen, that was originally canned over threats from North Korea.
Sony eventually decided to release the film online and in select theaters Christmas Day.
