Video Game Starring a Black Woman Is Coming Soon
In case you still need a reminder of how much Black girls (and boys) rock after last night's broadcast of The Wiz Live!, how about this: one of the most anticipated new videogames of 2016 is centered around a Black woman.
Telltale Games announced on Friday they will release a new installment for the best-selling and award-winning The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series franchise next year. This time around, the game will focus on Michonne, famously played by Danai Gurira on the show.
But Gurira won't be lending her voice to the game (she's a tad busy taking over Broadway), so Telltale enlisted another one of our faves for the job, Orange Is the New Black's Samira Wiley. "In our effort to bring the world of the comic and the world of the Telltale series closer together, there is no greater character than Michonne to help bridge that gap," says The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman.
Whether you're a gamer or not, what's not to love about more women of color in the world of video games? The Michonne-focused installment of The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series will be available on all major platforms this coming February.
