6 God vs. Ye?: Swizz Beatz Tests The Waters For Possible Verzuz Battle Between Drake And Kanye West
Could Drake and Kanye West be the next hip-hop legends to go head-to-head in an upcoming Verzuz battle?
It appears that Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, the masterminds behind the wildly-popular Instagram-based music celebration series would like to see the hip-hop rivals face off on their platform.
Just mere moments after 2 Chainz and Rick Ross' luxurious display of showmanship on Thursday night (August 6), Swizz took to Twitter where he shared his wildest proposition yet. The superproducer teased the idea of a Verzuz showdown between the award-winning artists. He ran the unconfirmed bout by his Verzuz co-creator over the social platform, simultaneously testing the waters regarding fans’ reception to the potential battle.
Sure enough, his words spread like wildfire across the social platform as fans jumped at the idea of the 6 God or Ye making an appearance in the virtual arena. The proposition sparked an intense debate from fans deliberating over who would emerge victorious from the fantasy battle.
“Kanye easily has more memorable and impactful hits. Drake ain’t got s**t for ‘Gold Digger,’ ‘All of the Lights,’ or ‘Jesus walks,’ just to name a few,” one person commented. Another person quickly chimed in to argue that the OVO head could put up a fierce fight with smash hits such as “One Dance,” “Gods Plan,” “In My Feelings,” “Started From The Bottom,” “Marvin’s Room,” and “Nonstop.”
The back and forth waged into the night as both sides championed for their rap favorite. Though, there were some that were hesitant at the prospect of West participating in a Verzuz. Their reasoning being that the Chicago rapper would bring a negative energy to a platform that has been about celebrating Black music given his contentious history with Drake and recent public mental health episode. Then, there’s also the speculation that he is reportedly receiving help from Republican operatives amid his run for president.

Suffice to say, it’s highly unlikely Drake would entertain the endeavor. In a rare sit-down interview with Rap Radar, Drake conveyed that the former bond they once shared is irreparable after Pusha T dealt a devastating blow with his diss track, “Story of Adidon,” on which he exposed that Drake fathered a son, Adonis, with Sophie Brusseaux.
But, it's an entertaining prospect nonetheless given the both of their respective influential careers. With the release of his seminal 808 & Heartbreaks album, Kanye cemented himself in rap’s history and inspired the next generation of rappers, Drake included. Likewise, Drake’s career has reached a height achieved by few others, breaking countless records.
If it happens, Drake and West would join a long list of hip-hop and R&B heavyweights who have participated in the series including, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, Teddy Riley, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmond, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, and DMX.
