Elle Varner Hints That Eminem Inspired Four Letter Word
Elle Varner has a new theme for her sophomore album, Four Letter Word, and her latest single tells it all. The Los Angeles native takes a page from her favorite MC and loses herself on “F**k It All.”
“Throw you a good few bows/ Act like a broken doll/ Just say f**k it all,” she sings before throwing in the towel with the vibrant redundancy of “**k It All” on the hook. The emotional song about heartbreak, finding oneself and being able to pick up everything and start over tells the story of maturity and Varner discovering new layers of her artistry. "When I wrote most of Perfectly Imperfect, I was really young," Varner told Billboard. "I hadn't really been in too many relationships or experienced breakups."
Two years later she is preparing to release her second album, which, like most artists, digs deeper than the surface scratched with the first. "There is a bit of a thread. It's telling a complete story,” she said. “I haven't fully decided how deep I want to go with it as I'm finishing up the little sequences and interludes.” But while she’s still figuring it out, influence from her a veteran in the biz could help to determine the final offering. “I'll just leave it at this: Eminem is one of my favorite artists of all time."
In addition to new inspiration, this time around the “Refill” singer worked with bigger producers like Boi-1da, Hit Boy and Da Internz and Pop & Oak, who produced her debut album. “It’s definitely gonna be different from the first album, but I feel incredible about it," she said. "What's more freeing than saying 'F**k it all?'”
Four Letter Word drops this fall.
