Dr. Dre to Executive Produce Drama Series for FX
Dr. Dre is about to produce another hit, but not one you’d expect. The hip hop icon just signed a lucrative development deal with FX Network to serve as executive producer on an upcoming drama, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The hour-long series, which is still in the early phases of development, comes from writer Sidney Quashi and is set in Dre’s hometown of Los Angeles. The show will explore the intertwined worlds of music and crime.
Although this will be Dre’s first time producing a television series, he founded a production company, Crucial TV, back in 2007 with Brad Bertner, who will also serve as an EP on the new series.
The good doctor isn't the only former NWA member to get into the TV business. Ice Cube, who’s successfully produced both television and movies, also announced a development deal with FX last year for an upcoming paramedic drama titled Eye for an Eye. Cube also currently serves as executive producer on the TBS series Are We There Yet?, a sitcom based on his 2005 movie of the same name.
With a grip on the audio world with headphones, sound systems and banging beats, we can’t wait to see what Dre does with the visuals.
