Astroworld Victim’s Family Slams Travis Scott After He Stops Rowdy Concert

An attorney says deaths could’ve been avoided if the rapper “realized his responsibility” sooner.

Travis Scott is receiving backlash after he stopped a concert when it got rowdy. It’s a move one of the Astroworld victim’s family believes is more calculated rather than showing genuine concern for concertgoers.

Alex Hilliard, an attorney representing Ezra Blount’s family, told TMZ that the Houston rapper’s actions at the July 4 Coney Island, New York show don’t prove the rapper is compassionate and willing to maintain order.

"He knows exactly how to keep his fans safe during a concert, but the problem with that is he didn't just learn about the fact that he has control over the entire crowd," Hilliard said to the outlet.

Additionally, the attorney says Scott has always been aware of his power to stop shows, but didn’t do so at last year’s Astroworld: "There are 10 people that would still be alive today, including young Ezra Blount, if Travis realized his responsibility as an artist goes further than just trying to rile up his crowds, and it reemphasizes the rule of 'if you see something say something.'"

That’s a sentiment Travis is denying. A rep for the rapper told TMZ that those assertions are “beyond disappointing.”

"This is the despicable, cynical height of hypocrisy. It’s beyond disappointing to see that - in a desperate bid to influence potential jurors – plaintiffs’ legal team is criticizing Travis for pausing Monday’s Coney Island show to ensure that fans can have fun safely,” the rep said. “This is exactly the wrong message to send to fans - and to artists. And it completely ignores the fact that Travis also stopped his performance at Astroworld three different times.”

Travis Scott is still facing several lawsuits that accuse him of being liable for the deaths at Astroworld Fest. All litigation is currently working its way through the courts.
