You Won't Believe How Much Patti LaBelle's Sweet Potato Pies Sold This Weekend
If you haven't heard of the recent "Patti Pies" viral sensation that's taken over the Internet this weekend, you've likely been living under a rock. With the countless memes, GIFs and parodies engulfing our timelines, they all seemed to overshadow one huge fact: Patti's set to make major bank.
According to Urban Intellectuals, in just one weekend, Patti LaBelle's sweet potato pies completely sold out at basically all Walmart stores. Apparently, they were in such high demand that the store's bakeries were telling callers that they were out of stock even before saying "hello." Ready for the grand total? Approximately $2.3 million worth of pies were sold just in this past weekend alone.
So, what does this mean, exactly? Well, it pretty much solidifies the fact that the Black dollar has the power to dominate any market it chooses. Urban Intellectuals said that "with over $1.2 trillion in annual spending power, the Black community has an opportunity to not only enjoy Pattie's pies, but also enjoy some financial control over the future, create jobs, businesses and funds to help make our communities better."
