OG Maco Reveals Photos Of Flesh-Eating Disease On Instagram
OG Maco lit hip-hop on fire with his single "U Guessed It."
As he rose to fame, the rapper began to post elusive pictures on social media with masks covering his face.
With questions swirling, he recently revealed that he'd been hiding his face because he's been battling a flesh-eating disease.
He bravely shared images of the injuries sustained to his face and head as a result of the disease
Maco wrote, "So much healing has occurred thanks to God and my doctors that I'm willing to show y'all a fraction of what I've been going through."
He revealed how he came in contact with the disease referred to as necrotising fasciitis. "I was improperly treated for a minor rash and ended up with a skin eating disease for the last few months. This is the best it's looked."
Using his experience as encouragement for others, he continued, "I hope it gives someone hope. I've been going through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my 'friends,' without anything but my own strength and God."
While the disease had an impact on his physical appearance, Maco also opened up about the role it played on his mental health
"I know it took a lot to share any of that, because I've been going through this for about three months," he said in a video. "Everybody I really thought would be here, who I really thought I could depend on, weren't there. I was scared. I didn't know what was going to happen. I didn't know if I was going to lose my entire face... I almost did," he added.
The rapper credited a loved one for encouraging him to share his story in the public. "My friend told me the other day that maybe I should share what I've been going through instead of beating myself down for feeling how I felt about it, which I wanted to die a bunch of days."
In spite of all he's been through in the last few months, OG Maco maintained a positive attitude. "Once I come out of this, better and more beautiful than ever, I want you guys to be ready... I'm gonna kick a**."
He received an outpouring of support from fans after news of his condition went viral
The rapper hopped on Twitter with kind words for his supporters. "I love you all and appreciate your support from the bottom of my heart ❤️ 🙏🏾 Thank you ❤️," he wrote.
