You Won't Believe How Much Patti LaBelle's Pies Are Selling for on eBay
Thanks to that hilarious viral video review, Patti LaBelle's sweet potato pies have now become a culinary phenomenon, and have sold out at all Walmart stores across the nation. While the folks over at the megastore are working hard to restock the pies, one eBay vendor is offering the pastry for a pretty penny.
According to The Huffington Post, eBay seller javari07 has the pie up for sale for $40.99, more than 12 times its original price. Other vendors have the pie for sale at slightly lower prices of $28.95, $25.00, $18.50, $11.00 and $7.00. Note that the original Walmart price is $3.48.
The pies were in such high demand that they were selling out by the second, literally. A store representation said in an e-mail to The Huffington Post, "Walmart sold one pie per second for 72 hours straight last weekend."
If you don't feel like shelling out $40 to taste the most popular dessert in the country right now, you may just have to wait a little longer. The corporation is "working as hard as possible" to get the pie back in stock, according to Kinna Thomas, senior buyer for cakes and pies at Walmart.
