Tupac Shakur Shooting Confession to Be Investigated by NYPD
Tupac's back! In the headlines at least, now that major headway is being made in the mystery surrounding his 1994 shooting. A spokesman for the New York Police Department said that they are investigating the recent confession of the man who claims to have shot the rapper in 1994, reports Reuters.
"Detectives plan to talk to him and hear what he has to say," police spokesman Paul Browne said today.
As previously reported, Dexter Isaac, a former associate of music manager Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond, claims he was paid $2500 to rob Tupac outside of New York City's Quad Studios in November 1994.
Isaac, who is currently serving a life sentence for fraud and robbery in New York, claims that he even has proof of the crime, a chain necklace that he stole from 'Pac on the night of the robbery and shooting.
Jimmy Henchman's lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, has recently come forward to refute Isaac's claims, calling the accusation a "flat-out lie."
"Dexter Isaac is not claiming this 17 years later to clear his conscience," said Lichtman. "He's doing it because he's told anybody who will listen he doesn't want to die in prison. He has kids and wants to work off his sentence. He can't be trusted."
No word has come from Henchman himself, as he's been on the run from the feds since May 17 due to his connections with a drug case. The music executive, who currently manages West Coast rapper Game, is being accused of shipping hundreds of kilos of cocaine to New York in music equipment cases as part of a drug ring that also includes his brother, Kesner. He faces 15 to 20 years in federal prison if the charges stick.
Isaac's claim does confirm at least a part of 'Pac's own suspicions of who set him up that night. Until his death 'Pac claimed that music rivals Notorious B.I.G. and Sean "Diddy" Combs were involved in the shooting, but he also named Henchmen as a suspect in the song "Against All Odds":
"And did I mention? Promise to pay back Jimmy Henchman in due time/I know you b---- n----s is listening, the world is mine/Set me up, wet me up, n----as stuck me up/Heard the guns bust, but you tricks never shut me up."
No charges can be brought against Isaac because enough time has passed since the crime that the statue of limitations prevents anyone from being tried for it.
Although Pac recovered from shooting, he was killed two years later in a drive-by shooting in Vegas. Had he survived that second attack, today would've been his 40th birthday.
