Tami Roman Talks 'Haus of Vicious,' Fame’s Dark Side, and Wild Family Drama on 'Caught in the Act'

Roman reflects on social media’s influence on fame and shocking moments from Caught in the Act and teases exciting new projects.

Tami Roman is wearing many hats these days—acting, producing, and hosting across multiple projects. She stars in "The Ms. Pat Show," hosts "Caught in the Act," and takes on a pivotal role in "Dying to be Famous," a film exploring the dangerous consequences of fame. Additionally, she’s back for season two of "Haus of Vicious" on BET+. We caught up with Roman to discuss her packed schedule, dive into her current projects, and get the inside scoop on what’s next.

BET.com: Let’s start with Haus of Vicious. I’ve seen the trailer and clips from the first season, but it looks like season two dives even deeper. What can viewers expect?

Tami Roman: To understand season two, it is helpful if you know what happened in season one. I think people were getting to know the characters and kind of understanding who these people are, and so there's a lot of intertwining of past traumas, personality defects, and character flaws that played out in season one. For season two, all of those things came to a head, which caused Chantel, who's the lead character, to lose everything and so now she's in a rebuilding phase. The problem is that while she's trying to rebuild, the other Characters are still stuck and being held hostage to their past and things that they caused to happen that are now coming to a head for all of them.

BET.com: Tell me more about "Dying to be Famous."

Tami Roman: Dying to be Famous,” really speaks to what's happening today in our society, where social media kind of takes over our lives, and everybody looks out at somebody else because you can see all of it right in real-time, and you become covetous of the lifestyles that you see, not understanding that people are showing you just a little piece of something, and it's probably the best moment of that something, and you don't know everything that they had to go through to get that little piece of that best moment. So, that's what “Dying to be Famous” is about: this young lady, played by Reyna Love, who does an amazing job, looking out and wanting to be an influencer, wanting to be the it girl, wanting to be hot because that's what she's looking at. The problem with Reyna's character is that she — without giving too much away because I want people to watch this movie because it's so good — has a bit of a character flaw, a character defect, which kind of takes over in this moment, where she can't determine her real reality from the life that she wants to have. And so, some of us have two personas, so this movie splits the difference between those two and what ultimately can happen when you allow, one, the person you're presenting us with, versus the real you taking over when they come in conflict.

BET.com: That’s such a relevant topic—especially with social media’s role in shaping public perception. People only show what they want, but when everything falls apart, we’re left shocked.

Tami Roman: They were only showing you what they wanted you to see. And then, on the flip side, some people sometimes show you everything.

BET.com: On "Caught in the Act," I imagine you’ve seen some wild things. Has anything ever genuinely surprised you?

Tami Roman: Yeah. We had one this season where there were twin brothers; you know, the twin was dating his twin’s Girlfriend. His thought process behind that was, “Because she's not the right person for you, and I wanted to show you that, because if I just said it to you, you wouldn't believe me,” and I felt like, no, I think he would have believed you. You didn't need to go down this road to show him that. That one was shocking to me because family is so important to me. It's always a family-first attitude and environment in my home. So, to see twins who probably are the closest family you could be — they shared a womb — defy each other's confidence and integrity like that was shocking to me.
