The cast and crew of the hit Starz drama Power recently suffered a major loss as one of the show's longtime production team members died in a tragic on-set accident on Monday. He was 63.
According to Deadline, the NYPD confirmed that Pedro Jimenez, who served as a production assistant for the Starz series, was fatally struck by a 2006 Ford Explorer on Douglass Street in Brooklyn, New York, at around 4:20 a.m., local time.
Just prior to his untimely death, Jimenez was placing cones on the ground of a parking lane for the upcoming shoot when the large vehicle struck him. The NYPD reports that he was immediately transported via EMS to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the tragic incident.
A rep for the show shared a statement with the site: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of the members of our Power family. Our thoughts are with Mr. Jiminez's family as we work to fully understand what has happened."
50 Cent, who serves as both producer and star of the drama, also shared his condolences, writing on Instagram, "I just learned we lost Pedro Jimenez, a member of the Power production team early this morning. My prayers and condolences are with the entire Jimenez family."
The main star of the series, Omari Hardwick, also shared his heartfelt thoughts on Jimenez's death in an extensive Instagram post of his own.
Deadline further reports that, following the incident, Starz has decided to temporarily shut down production for season six of Power out of respect for Jimenez's family.
May he rest in peace.
