Mariah Carey Was Reportedly Hospitalized Following Psychotic Breakdown
Mariah Carey received a wide outpouring of support from fans after revealing her longtime battle with bipolar II disorder last week, a symptomatic mental health illness characterized by depression, hypomania and insomnia.
She assured her fans that she’s been handling the disorder well by keeping up with her medication and seeking proper treatment. However, an alleged psychotic breakdown in 2016 that landed Mimi in the hospital might suggest otherwise, The Blast reports.
According to the site, Mariah spun into a frightening delusion one night after insisting that deceased musical legends like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Prince were visiting her home for a dinner party. The incident came on the heels of another rough patch that she was working through as well: her publicized breakup with former boyfriend and billionaire, James Packer, the site added.
Nick Cannon, whom Mariah shares a healthy co-parenting relationship with over their two children, frantically contacted her manager, Stella Bulochnikov, during the troublesome evening, The Blast reports. The source sharing the inside info to the site said that Mimi’s nanny called him after she found the songstress “wearing a ball gown and a tiara” with a candy Ring Pop that she said “the royal family” gave her.
She allegedly requested that the nanny also prepare her twin daughter and son, Monroe and Moroccan, for the aforementioned dinner party with the late music icons. This was enough to send the nanny into a frenzy as she contacted those close to Mariah to inform them of her mental state, fearing she may have been at risk for harm to herself or others. Her team reportedly rushed to her home afterward with a psychiatrist in tow, who declared that she be hospitalized immediately. On the way there, the source reportedly shared that Mariah even tried hopping out of the moving vehicle.
She was reportedly ordered by doctors to be placed on an involuntary 5150 hold, however, the Glitter actress ended up being released under the care of her team and private physicians. The secret hospitalization was kept undisclosed by those involved with her care taking. Mariah also reportedly underwent treatment at Beverly Hills Hotel, which included an IV and other unnamed medications. She allegedly stayed for a few weeks, but sunk back into a poor mental state after returning home and refusing to take her medication.
This is actually the grounds for a new lawsuit from her now-former manager, Bulochnikov, who adds sexual misconduct and substance abuse to her claims of Mimi’s alleged behavior.
None of these reports have been addressed or confirmed from Mariah’s team.
