Cam Newton has been criticized early into this NFL season for not speaking up enough against racism and violence in America like Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players have.

It doesn't help that the reigning NFL MVP and Carolina Panthers quarterback said that America is beyond racism before this season even started.

Well, perhaps the 27-year-old QB just isn't that comfortable speaking about social injustices. But that doesn't mean that Newton can't still make social statements, right?

Before his Panthers kicked off their home game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Cam was spotted on the sidelines wearing a shirt with a famous Martin Luther King Jr. quote on it.

Is Newton making a statement with a T-shirt enough or does the superstar QB actually need to speak on racial inequality and violence against African-Americans regularly — like Kaepernick has been doing — to make true impact?
